The goal of this project was to develop a harmonious genre blend between modern shooters, monster capture games, and
visual novels. Hopefully by doing so we would be able to attract those who aren’t a fan of the typical FPS genre to come
and enjoy our game.
To achieve this we will be more or less creating a playable anime. Situations where exposition and character development
are necessary, will be presented in portrait dialogue sections, or a painted slide show-esque format similar to the popular
Fire Emblem series. This is done so players can be allowed to absorb all important details, as well immerse themselves in
the mind of the protagonist a little easier. Not to mention there is a particular sense of ownership that emerges from reading
carefully than having everything thrown at you in a cut scene.
However unlike typical visual novel games, we will be allowing the player to take control of the actions and fights. This is
done so that player can gain the satisfaction of achieving the feats of the character. The game will be presented in a first person
camera to continue the immersion effect.
The challenge of this project (in regards to it’s sustain ability) will be making sure that the action doesn’t mar the emotional
experience of the story nor allow the story to hinder the pacing of the action. I believe the key to this marriage will be to
look to anime. The anime medium is all too common about handing a large amount of exposition while juggling exciting action.
Some are more successful than others but the understanding of it will be integral for selling the idea.
It is important that as a team we contribute any and all ideas that we may feel can improve the overall feel of the game.
